CHILDREN’S MINISTRY

Jane Frank, chair

The purpose of the Children’s Ministry Mission Team (committee) is to oversee the programs, classes, curriculum and materials used in the church for the education of infants through Sixth Grade. As of October, 2007, Youth/College/Young Adult programs became part of the Christian Life Committee. Our goal is to lead each child to a personal commitment to God through Jesus Christ by educating the children in a loving and caring atmosphere bringing all to an understanding of the application and relevance of the Christian faith in everyday life.

Sue Love’s commitment as Director of Children’s Ministry continues to be an inspiration to our mission team and all the adults who serve in the Christian Education programs. The programs include: Crib Room, Toddlers, K – Sixth Grade Church School; child care for the 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. church services; Prime Time!; Vacation Bible School; Ye Younge Gift Shoppe; the acolyte ministry; and inter-generational events throughout the year. Our mission projects included Adopt-A-Family at Christmas, CHAP, cereal for Harmony House, and Bibles for our adopted families.

All of our Christian Education activities are strongly supported by prayer and by many members of our congregation responding wholeheartedly to our Lord’s call to ministry, whether teaching, caring, cooking, driving, praying or just having fun with kids. Without their response, we would not have the many opportunities of growing, learning, and fellowship with Jesus and each other.

We are blessed beyond measure by God’s grace and mercy. If you sense a call to be involved in our ministry, please call Sue Love or one of the committee members to see where you may help. Mission team members for 2007 were Tom Culp (through 3/07), Shirley DeWitt (through 8/07), Joan Kaufman (through 8/07), Polly Davis (through 12/07), Lori Wagner, Donna Farrar, Beth Peebles, Laura Demyan, Jane Carmean, Barb Durchik, Jane Frank, and staff support from Sue Love.

GOALS FOR 2008:

1. Increase this mission team by possibly four new members.

2. Increase participation in events by personally contacting people, i.e. VBS.

3. Initiate a new event. One possibility is for “tweens” (upper elementary youth) to make cookies and deliver them to shut-ins.
