The office of Deacon as
set forth in scripture is one of sympathy, witness, and service after the
example of Jesus Christ. In this, we witness to all those who are in need,
to the sick, to the friendless, and to anyone who may be in distress.
(From the Book of Order).
Each deacon is assigned a parish. The deacons keep in
contact with parish members by telephone calls, visits, or by letters. We
keep our parishioners informed of church activities and send birthday,
sympathy, get well, anniversary, and holiday cards to them. Praying for
our parish members is a very important part of our duties.
Deacons are responsible for enlisting parish members to
host coffee hours and greet before Sunday worship services. Thanks to all
parishioners who have hosted a coffee hour or served as greeters. Deacons
are also seen greeting at the patio and Trimble Road doors before worship
and at Sanctuary doors after the service. We also provide transportation
to church events and deliver altar flowers when requested.
Visiting shut-ins at home and in health care facilities
has been a priority for us this year. We delivered Easter lilies and
Thanksgiving baskets. Spending time with these members has been very
rewarding.
I want to thank the outgoing class of deacons for their
excellent services. I am looking forward to serving our Lord and our
church family during the coming year with our current deacons Rheta
Copper, Polly Davis, Sharon Granter, Margaret Hammett, Janeen Hire, Susie
Leuthold, Martha Montague, Lori Wagner, Maxine Walter, Nora Young, Eilene
Bates, Dana Constance, Becky Craig, Veronna Drane, Lynn Haren, Judy Pabst,
