This year was a very productive year for the Outreach
Mission Team (committee)!!! We started our year with the community meals,
which reached out to approximately 8 to 15 community members each month.
Our own church family seemed to enjoy these monthly meals, many remarking
that these meals were nice because they did not have to eat alone that
day! We had, on the average, 50 to 80 people each month
The first Sunday of every month is now Name Tag Sunday.
The Outreach team felt that this helps people feel more welcome.
Gig on the Green was another event hosted by Outreach.
This year a Children’s Carnival was added and several artists came to
display and sell their work. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate,
and it rained really, really hard! In spite of the weather, approximately
200 people came to enjoy the evening and hear the bands perform.
In December, the Outreach team prepared food to take to
the Main Street United Methodist Church downtown for “All God’s Children”
ministry. This program not only feeds people in need but also feeds their
souls! Our team fed between 80 and 100 men, women, and children on a cold
winter’s night. The people were very thankful and really grateful for the
food.
Last, but not least, we were able to take in 19 new
members this year! This is up from 9 new members in 2006. It is our
fervent prayer that God would continue to show us how “to glorify God in
Christ by building disciples and meeting people’s needs.”
GOALS FOR 2008:
1. Bring in at least 50 new members in 2008.
2. Sponsor Flicks 4 Free Movie Nights on the last Sunday
of each month beginning in May and ending in September, with a goal of 25
people at each movie night.
3. After securing financial assistance for the cost
involved, we will host author Lauren Winner for an event in the church. We
would like Lauren to come on September 7, and teach a combined adult
Sunday school class, then return in the evening for a lecture. Adult
Sunday school will then teach either “Girl Meets God” or “Real Sex” as a
class in the weeks following Lauren’s visit. We would like at least 50
nonmembers to be part of the Sunday evening lecture.
