PROPERTY AND FINANCE COMMITTEE

Jerry Duff, chair

The past year, 2007, has been one with a lot of challenges for us. We have performed quite a lot of routine repairs inside and outside the building. Hopefully, this has saved considerable expenses by heading off some major repairs. We ended the year with a balanced budget and are anticipating the same for this coming year.

Our projects in 2007 included the following:

Front Pillars & Entrance – This was necessary because of the deteriorating condition of the pillars. The flagstone and steps were all replaced at the same time, also because of deterioration. The entrance was also brought up to handicapped accessible requirements. We are still waiting on the railing to be installed.

South Entrance Ramp – The concrete at this entrance had also deteriorated. It was brought up to handicapped accessible requirements.

The Garden Club – This group has kept pace with most of the new areas outside. The plantings look super!

Parking Lot Lights – We replaced the older lights with modern fixtures.

Large Extension Ladder – This was purchased in order to reach the lights in the Sanctuary for cleaning and replacing light bulbs. The cost was considerably less than purchasing a hoist that was discussed.

Building Addition – Our new choir room and large storage room (used mostly for rummage) were completed. Other storage areas are being adjusted for the needs of the church.

Exterior Painting – Painting of the doors, windows, signs, etc. were begun in late fall and will be completed this spring.

Removal of Old Shrubs & Dead Trees – Some of this was necessary because of work done in front of the church; the rest was done because of the condition of the old plants.

There are many areas of the church that continue to need attention. The sign on Millsboro Road is currently being repaired, and the Sanctuary communion table is currently being repaired and refinished.

A few of the projects we would like to consider in 2008 include new windows and a restroom in the Large Motor Room.

Many thanks to the members of the team: Sally Caskey, Dave Crawford, John Gadfield, Larry Pabst, Craig Papst, Carroll Pritchard, Dick Shasky, John Sheadel, Bob Soulen, Dick Stander, Dennis Walls, Keith Wright, and staff members Kim Stover and Dennis Allison.

GOALS FOR 2008:

1. Garage and outside storage building.

2. Replacing counter top and sink in Parlor kitchenette.

3. Painting and updating Westminster Room.
