Music

Under the direction of Music Director, Lynette Peffley, the Chancel Choir and Hand Bell Choir are an active part of worship.  The Chancel Choir is a part of the worship service on a weekly basis and the Bell Choir at regularly scheduled intervals throughout the year. 

The Bell Choir meets for rehearsal on Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m.  The Chancel Choir meets for rehearsal on Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m.

Presbyterian Women

Presbyterian Women (PW) offers women in the church meaningful ways to live out their faith in the midst of a caring community of women.  For more than 200 years PW groups have strengthened the Presbyterian church and played a major role in sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ and witnessing to the promise of God's Kingdom.  For more information on PW programs, contact Rheta Copper, PW Moderator.

Leadership

Session  - The Session is responsible for the leadership, government, discipline, and mission of the church.  Specific areas of responsibilities are assigned to the various mission teams under the direction of an active Elder.  The Session currently meets the fourth Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m.  Dennis Allison serves as the moderator of Session.    

 Deacons - The Deacons offer sympathy and service as they minister to those in need, to the sick, to those in distress, showing pastoral concern and care for our members.  They secure church members to greet at the doors prior to worship and enlist members to host coffee hour follwoing worship.  they deliver flowers to our extended church members, who are in the hospital or nursing homes.  They also provide transportation for members who request a ride to and from church.  They are encouraged to pray daily for everyone in their parish by name.  The Deacons currently meet the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. 

Adults

A variety of Adult Christian Education classes, discussion groups, are offered on Sunday mornings, September through May, at 9:00 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.  During the rest of the year any special learning events are advertised in Sunday worship.  Some of the other events are as follows:

Joy in the Morning women gather on Tuesday mornings at 9:15 a.m. for Bible study and discussion.  This does not occur thorughout the year.  Contact the church for more information. 

Small group Bible studies -are informal gatherings in different homes on various days of the week.  This is an important time for building relationships, encouraging one another in the demands and the blessings of the  Faith.  Contact the church if you are interested in becoming a part of this.  You may use the form on this page if you wish.

Super Seniors - is an informal gathering of retirees. 

Worship

Sunday Worship Service is at 10:00 a.m. upstairs in the main Sanctuary, with seminars, discussion groups, classes for all ages following the worship service and beginning at 11:15 a.m.   An adult biblical study group meets at 9:00 a.m. prior to the worship service. 

Wednesday Worship Service occurs every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the lower part of the building, the large hall.  Participants may sit at round tables for a discussion time following the message focus upon a certain aspect of Scripture.  Children are offered percussion instruments to play during the times for singing, children are welcomed into all aspects of the worship service and we want to have them present.  This worship follows a meal occurng September through May to which congrgation members and guests are invited -- no reservations necessary.  Program for children occurs prior to the meal, program for youth following the worship.   At times program for adults will occur concurrently with children's programming. 

The Sacrament of The Lord's Supper is observed at least four times throughout the Christian year in the Sunday morning worship.  Special observances take place during Lent, such as Maundy Thursday, and Christmas Eve. 

Baptism - Children, youth and adults are received into the Church of Jesus Christ through the celebration that occurs during the Sacrament of Baptism.  Contact the church for more information. 

New members - Every one is unique, and every member of the church enriches the church through his or her presence, and enriches his or her life.  Please contact the church or any member of the staff or any church member if you are interested in joining with us in our task and celebration.

Ministry Teams

Worship Mission Team - This team is responsible for all worship activities in conjunction with the pastor, including Sunday services, communion, and all special worship services.  They use as their guide the Scriptures and the Constitution of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), especially the Directory for Worship, found in the Book of Order.  The ushers, Chancel Choir, Bell Choir, and any other choirs, soloists, and musicians are all uner the oversight of this misison team in concordance with the Book or Order(which gives the pastor full authority over the musician worship).  The Worship Team currently meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.  The team leader for 2009 is Phil Caskey.

 The Children’s Ministry Mission Team This team is responsible for the oversight of all Christian education classes, programs, curriculum and materials for infants through grade 6, Church School, Vacation Bible School, mid-week programs, Crib Connectors, second grade communion class, and first grade worship class. It is responsible for enlisting teachers/care givers for children’s programs for the school year (September-May) and summer (June-August) and submitting these names to Session for approval. The mission team oversees and supports the Children’s Pastor and the Church School Superintendent.  The Children's Ministry Team currently meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.  The Team Leader for 2009 is Linda Woodrow. 

 

Christian Life Mission Team – This team is responsible for the planning and oversight of any and all Christian Education classes, programs, curriculum, and materials for 7th graders through adults, including Sunday morning classes, mid-week programming, Bible studies, and small groups. The team is also responsible for the promotion of family Bible times, encouragement of stewardship of time and talents in the life of the church, and hands-on mission opportunities for youth through adults.The Christian Life Team currently meets the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. The team leader for 2009 is Mary Beth Wright.

 

 

The Property and Finance Mission Team – This team is involved with the care and maintenance of the physical properties of the church and oversees the finances of its operation. The Property and Finance Team currently meets the third Tuesday of each month at 5:00 p.m. The team leader for 2009 is Jerry Duff.

 

 

The Outreach Mission Team – This team lays the groundwork for identifying, inviting, and establishing relationships for guests to the church’s small groups and/or worship services. They encourage the personal outreach efforts of our members, prepare guests for reception as members, and integrate new members and guests into the life of the church. The Outreach Mission Team currently meets the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. The team leader for 2009 Diana Hammer.

 

 

The Stewardship and Benevolence Mission Team – This team has the responsibility of supervising the stewardship education, interpretation and commitment of the congregation. The team plans and implements events to increase the congregation’s awareness of our mission, both locally and beyond, plans and completes a meaningful Stewardship Campaign annually, encourages the congregation’s participation in the special offerings suggested by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), and reviews and presents for session approval requests for special offerings and benevolence fund solicitations. The Stewardship and Benevolence Mission Team currently meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. The team leader for 2009 is Brad Peffley.

 

 

The Preschool Mission Team – This team is responsible for creating and, through the preschool staff, fulfilling the mission of the preschool. That mission is to provide an inclusive, dynamic preschool program designed to help children learn and develop in all areas, emphasizing spiritual, social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth. The children will be encouraged to explore God’s world through multi-sensory experiences, using a developmental approach. The Preschool Mission Team currently meets the second Thursday of each month at 4:15 p.m. The team leader for 2009 is Judy Swartzmiller.

 

 

The Nominating Mission Team – This team is charged with the selection and securing of members to be nominated for church officer, the Nominating Mission Team, and, if applicable, other mission teams of the congregation.   The Nominating Mission Team currently meets the second Tuesday of each month at 5:45 p.m. The team leader for 2009 is Jim Constance.

 

 

The Personnel Mission Team – This team prepares job descriptions for each position, reviews them annually and/or as needed, approves any changes in personal qualifications for any paid staff position, and presents to Session for approval. The team develops salary and wage scales for staff members, sets policy for pay periods, FICA, insurance, workers’ compensation, vacation leave and sick leave, sets standards for the hiring and discharge for non-ordained personnel, and recommends hiring of personnel to Session for approval.  This team meets on an as needed basis. The team leader for 2009 is Sally Wyatt.

 

 

The Endowment Mission Team – This team shall have the oversight of all endowments and trust funds belonging to this Church and its various organizations and agencies and shall invest, reinvest, sell, assign and transfer, possess and control all such funds and securities as agents and trustee of this Church and its several organizations subject to the oversight of the Session. Team Leader – this team is led by inactive Elders with specialized experience in these tasks. If you are interested in this team, please call the church office for more information
